Remediation of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and EPUB
PDFs get the attention, but most organisations publish far more in Word, PowerPoint and Excel — and those files are frequently the ones that reach students, staff and customers first.
Word
Real heading styles rather than bold text, list semantics rather than manual bullets, table header rows, alternative text, meaningful link text, and document language and title metadata. Remediating at the Word stage also means every PDF exported from it afterwards starts far closer to conformant.
PowerPoint
Unique slide titles, a correct reading order in the selection pane, alternative text on images and charts, sufficient contrast, and notes that carry the content of complex visuals rather than repeating the slide.
Excel
Sheet names that mean something, defined header rows, avoided merged cells, alternative text on charts, and enough labelling that a screen reader user can navigate a workbook by structure instead of by coordinates.
EPUB
Semantic markup, a working navigation document, correct reading order, described images, and metadata that declares the title's accessibility so it surfaces correctly in retail and library catalogues.
